Diagnosis of solid, gaseous, surface and forming defects and inclusions
Laboratory analysis includes composition analysis of inclusions, stone, cord, knot, bubbles and blisters to surface contamination, delamination, misting, bloom and the assessment of forming defects and quality concerns in finished products.
As experts in glass we can simply report upon simple composition and causes of defects or provide technical support to provide solutions and quickly resolve production issues for our clients.
Laboratory analysis is available on fast and urgent turnaround for rapid diagnostics and fault resolution.

Inclusions, Stone, Cord and Knot
Stone and cord in glass can lead to significant losses in production. Rapid analysis identifies the likely cause minimising production losses. Working closely with the customer, Glass Technology Services can identify the cause of the problem and recommend remedial action. This service is designed for tight production schedules and an express service is available to provide results within a few hours of sample receipt.
深海捕鱼大师This service is carried out using an extensive range of analytical facilities including optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with microanalysis (EDS) and can be backed up by wet chemical analysis and ther analytical techniques.
深海捕鱼大师Composition analysis to determine the source of the foreign material to determine remedial action.
Bubble and Blister Analysis
We provide specialist analysis of bubble defects in glass utilising our portable bubble gas analysis system. The equipment can analyse the component gases held within bubbles and blisters.
深海捕鱼大师The occurrence of bubble/blister in glass can lead to significant losses in production. The potential causes of an outbreak are wide ranging. Therefore the identification of gas components and relative pressures can be crucial in determining the possible sources of the bubble/blister and eliminating the problem.
A portable quadropole mass spectrometer is used to analyse the gaseous components of bubbles. Gases routinely analysed for are: water (H2O), nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), argon (Ar2), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon oxy-sulphide (COS), hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Analysis for other gases can be performed upon request. This can be provided on a same or next day service, with experienced opinions provided in addition to analytical results. Our focus is to provide rapid analysis either within our laboratories or on-site.
The service is backed by an extensive range of on-site analytical techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
This information allows our team to use their specialist knowledge and experience of glass manufacture to determine the likely causes of these defects.
Coatings, Surfaces and Delamination
深海捕鱼大师The surface of glass can be a source of unique and wide-ranging problems and the properties of glass surfaces can be very different to the bulk (glass) properties. This is critical to issues such as adhesion, coatings and durability. We have extensive experience and knowledge in the analysis and understanding of glass surfaces to tackle a range of surface related issues, including:
- Bloom and weathering;
- Decorative coatings;
- Surface contamination;
- Hot-end coating durability;
- Cap / glass interactions.
Visual assessment, combined with chemical analysis where required, is conducted to identify and assess forming issues for a range of glass products in order to advise clients on remedial action. Please see our visual quality assessment service深海捕鱼大师 for further information.
